About
Hi there! I'm Alex.
I'm a celebrant, storyteller, people-person, former bar manager, and former registrar who's never quite lost her fascination with people's lives, loves, adventures, and wonderfully unexpected stories.
Looking back, I don't think my career has ever really been about jobs. It's always been about people.
For more than three decades I've worked in places where people gather, and in community pubs, live music venues, care settings, a registrar office, and now ceremonies.
Every chapter has taught me something about connection, community, and the stories we carry through life.
Today, through Rites and Roots, I create ceremonies that are warm, inclusive, thoughtful, and completely centred on the people in front of me.
No two ceremonies are ever quite the same.
Some are rich with stories, laughter and shared memories.
Some are simple, understated and focused on the promises being made.
Some embrace tradition wholeheartedly. Others take a less-travelled path.
Some borrow a little from both.
My role isn't to fit people into a particular style of ceremony.
It's to listen, understand what matters to them, and create something that feels authentic.
Sometimes that means telling the whole tale.
Sometimes it means letting a few carefully chosen words carry the moment.
Either way, the goal is always the same: to create a ceremony that feels genuine, meaningful and true to the people at its heart.
I'm also mindful of the environmental impact of the products I use. Any physical materials provided as part of my services are sourced from ethical and environmentally conscious suppliers wherever possible, including recycled and sustainably produced paper products.
I'm proudly LGBTQ+ affirming, neurodivergent-friendly, and committed to creating ceremonies where people feel safe, welcome, and free to be themselves.
Whoever you are. Whoever you love. Whatever you believe. However your brain works. There's space for you here.
I've never been particularly interested in putting people into neat little boxes.
Oh, and if your idea of a perfect ceremony happens to involve ancient traditions, folklore, family, Welsh culture, heavy metal, Dungeons & Dragons references, a windswept cliff top, or something nobody's attempted before, my response is usually the same:
"Brilliant. Tell me more."
